Voting for the 2025 Seeds for Change recipients takes place Monday, November 4 - Sunday, November 17. This year 43 local nonprofit organizations applied and qualified to be part of the 2025 Co-op’s Seeds for Change Round-up Program. The top 9 organizations selected by the membership will be announced in December.

Arcata House Partnership (AHP) is a community-based non-profit. We have been committed to serving Humboldt County since 1991. Our mission is to provide advocacy for and services to the homeless and food insecure with compassion, dignity and empowerment. We provide a full range of services including emergency shelter, drop-in case management, permanent supportive housing, and food security.
Big Brothers Big Sisters has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is incredible potential. Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers ("Bigs") and children ("Littles"), ages 5 through young adulthood in the community at no charge. We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.
Bigfoot Trail Alliance envisions connected rural communities conserving the unparalleled biodiversity of the Klamath Mountains region, with an understanding that stewardship is the sincerest form of advocacy. We partner with land agencies and nonprofits to engage and equip conservation corps and community volunteers in the restoration and maintenance of the 360-mile Bigfoot Trail.
Breast and GYN Health Project is our community's local grassroots cancer resource center. It’s our wish that no one should face cancer alone. Clients find education and support to make decisions along their cancer journey. People facing cancer often learn and become empowered to be their own best medical advocate. Many volunteers and staff are cancer survivors themselves.
Bridgeville Community Center is the epicenter of a rural area, giving children, families, seniors and individuals a place of support and provision. We encourage community involvement, participation, offer enrichment events, and connect with the diverse group of people who call Bridgeville home.
CASA of Humboldt provides a stable and consistent adult for children living in foster care. CASA advocates ensure a child's voice is heard in court when decisions are made about their life. We are dedicated to building healthy relationships and bridging community connections for vulnerable children and families, ensuring a future of safety, and hope where they feel supported to grow and thrive.
Coalition for Responsible Transportation Priorities (CRTP) provides public education and advocacy in support of safe, sustainable, and equitable transportation in Humboldt County and across the North Coast. We promote evidence-based strategies to make streets safer for everyone, help solve the climate crisis, and make it more comfortable and convenient to walk, bike, roll and ride the bus.
Companion Animal Foundation is a Community Animal Program and Adoption Center serving people from Hoopa to Southern Humboldt since 2002. Our beautiful adoption center is a safe place for both animals and passionate humans to come together. In addition to running a lovely center, we provide vouchers for spay/neuter, teach humane education programs to youth ages 8-18 and work with the houseless.
Disaster Response Services is dedicated to enhancing community resilience in Northern California. We provide disaster preparedness training and coordinate emergency response efforts during natural disasters, focusing on vulnerable communities and improving response capabilities with advanced communication and rapid deployment services.
ERV Community Center Foundation - Northern CA Association of Nonprofits (NorCAN) Program strengthens Humboldt County's nonprofit sector by offering workshops, roundtables, and resources on grant writing, fundraising, board development, leadership, advocacy, and more. Our mission is to build the capacity of local nonprofits and emerging youth leaders, empowering them to better serve the community.
Friends for Life has been operating as an animal rescue in Humboldt County since 2001. One of the crucial programs we provide is the Shelter Emergency Medical Fund, which pays for the veterinary care of sick and/or injured homeless cats and dogs impounded at the County Animal Shelter. Thanks to our program, sick & injured animals are no longer euthanized due to lack of fund.
Friends of the Dunes has actively engaged the community in the conservation of the coastal environments of Humboldt County, California since 1982. They envision a dynamic, naturally diverse coastal environment that is restored, sustained, and enjoyed for generations to come through the involvement of community members who embrace learning about and caring for the land.
Friends of the Eel River works for the recovery of our Wild & Scenic river, its fisheries and communities. We are committed to removing the two dams blocking access to our headwaters, advocating for the Great Redwood Trail, and ensuring sustainable land use, including effective cannabis regulation: all vital for restoring salmon habitat across 250 miles and safeguarding the Eel River ecosystem.
Hospice of Humboldt provides compassionate end-of-life care, palliative care services, and grief support to local families, ensuring comfort and dignity during their most challenging times. Our dedicated team is committed to offering comfort, dignity, and personalized care, ensuring individuals have the support they need when it's most needed.
Humboldt Arts Council owns and operates the Morris Graves Museum of Art, the North Coast's only Art Museum. We provide support to the artists and culture bearers who live and work in Humboldt County and offer outreach programs in local schools; community education programs; and preserve a collection of over 1000 works of art that illustrates the rich history of the arts on the North Coast.
Humboldt Community Access and Resource Center is a private non-profit agency, incorporated in 1955 by a group of dedicated parents seeking an alternative to institutionalization for their children with developmental disabilities. Today, HCAR serves local citizens with disabilities by promoting person-centered planning, community inclusion and family unity through an array of services and supports.
Humboldt County Beekeepers Association supports our flying pollinators, and strives to keep them healthy, addressing food insecurity and improving your own crops and garden yields. We welcome all new beekeepers and bee gardeners to our monthly meetings and believe there is no such thing as a "stupid question". We are a happy bunch and love extraction parties!
Humboldt County Historical Society has provided a home for local history since 1947. As a private non-profit research center we rely on our small staff, volunteers, membership dues and donations to make our collections accessible to the public. We also strive to provide interactive and educational opportunities at a variety of annual events held throughout the county.
Humboldt Humane is a nonprofit organization supported by community generosity. Our clinic, Critters Without Litters, is licensed by the State of California and staffed by licensed veterinarians. We envision a community in which every cat and dog is cherished and has a loving home. We are making this vision a reality by providing affordable spaying and neutering to prevent unwanted litters.
Humboldt Literacy Project connects adults 18+ who wish to improve their reading and writing with adult volunteer tutors for free, confidential, one-on-one English language tutoring. What this means is we pair our volunteer “Tutors” with “Learners” to help the learners to read and write, learn English, and achieve personal goals. We work with all kinds of people. It's FREE!
Humboldt Permaculture Guild (HPG) is a group of food producers, business owners, builders, educators, and permaculture designers. We all share a belief in resilient communities, regenerative lifestyles, educating the community, stewardship of natural systems, local seed development, natural building, conservative water, and energy use.
Humboldt Redwoods Interpretive Association (HRIA) and Humboldt’s State Parks, including Humboldt Redwoods, named the nation’s #1 State Park in 2024, protect our signature Redwood forests. HRIA helps visitors see these parks not only with their eyes, but also with their hearts. HRIA and our magnificent Redwoods stimulate exploration, inspire awe and delight, and uplift the human spirit.
Humboldt Senior Resource Center is committed to active, healthy, nourished, and engaged lives for our community's elders. HSRC empowers seniors to age at home with dignity by offering a variety of programs to keep them healthy and independent. These include Meals on Wheels Redwood Coast, Alzheimer’s Services, Redwood Coast Village, Senior Home Repair, Redwood Coast PACE, and much more!
Humboldt Sponsors is a local nonprofit organization of 330 volunteer members, dedicated to raising funds solely to benefit Humboldt County youth. We award grants annually in April to local youth-related nonprofit programs and organizations that provide services to children. Since 1971, we have awarded nearly $3,000,000 in grant funds. "We make good things happen for local kids!"
Humboldt Wildlife Care Center / Bird Ally X is our region's only all species wildlife rehabilitation center. We rescue and care for native birds and other wild animals who have been injured or orphaned, and release patients back to the wild when they are healthy. Karuna Animal Rescue & Sanctuary is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming abandoned, abused, & neglected animals. We provide a safe and loving sanctuary for those who cannot be adopted, ensuring they receive lifelong care and enrichment. Through education and advocacy, we strive to promote the responsible and humane treatment of all animals, working to end animal suffering and home.
KMUD provides local news, reliable emergency updates, and public affairs, as well as quality entertainment from a variety of voices with a focus on diverse perspectives and genres. It is people-powered, free speech radio, where listeners can call in to live talk shows, including shows that accept calls on any topic.
Mid Klamath Watershed Council (MKWC) works collaboratively with partners to restore the threatened Klamath River and upslope habitats. We plan, implement, and adaptively manage on-the-ground projects that enhance watershed health and community vitality, such as fisheries habitat improvement, prescribed fire implementation, invasive plant removal, and youth and community engagement.
National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Eureka Branch works to ensure the educational, social and economic rights of all members of our community and to eliminate racial hatred and discrimination. With the support of like-minded businesses and individuals we can continue to strive toward this goal.
Nation's Finest has an approach to housing, health, and employment that is designed to create a network of support that empowers Veterans to achieve stability, build resilience, and find success. We offer health care navigation, CalAIM services, legal aid, and are the only organization on the North Coast offering Homeless Prevention services. We tailor our services to each unique Veteran's needs.
Natural History Museum's mission is through our collections, exhibits, and programs, to inspire an understanding and appreciation of the dynamic natural world. By exploring the museum, we hope visitors are inspired to get out and explore other magical places in northwest California. Northcoast Children's Services believes that healthy families are crucial to the development that occurs from the beginning of life through early childhood. Respectfully building on each family's strengths and goals, NCS works in partnership with families to promote healthy development. NCS operates 42 classrooms and home based preschool programs throughout Humboldt and Del Norte Counties.
Northern California Community Blood Bank provides life-saving blood to Humboldt and Del Norte counties. In many rural areas, residents travel twice as far for healthcare as those in urban areas, and as a consequence, experience a higher rate of fatality. A safe, reliable blood supply collected and stored locally means patients in our community can receive a transfusion without delay.
North Coast Growers Association connects our community with local farmers: farmers' markets provide space to meet and shop with our farmers and nutrition access programs; Harvest Hub increases the access schools, Tribes, and food banks have to locally grown and raised foods and deliver produce to individual's homes; Ag Programs provides technical assistance to farmers.

Pacific Coast Restoration is an organization dedicated to restoring habitats in local watersheds. Since our founding in 1991, we have been innovators in stream and estuarine habitat restoration projects from Humboldt Bay to Oregon. We work collaboratively with public and private partners to restore watershed function and enhance vital habitat for imperiled fish and wildlife populations.
Play Street’s mission is to provide an all-inclusive space to foster connection and community cohesion amongst Humboldt County families with children with unique and different abilities. At our accessible play space in Eureka, we are working to bring families together in positive and fun experiences. Redwood Pals Rescue is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to supporting rescue and adoption of the dogs at the Humboldt County Animal Shelter. We also assist with vaccines, spay/neuter and supplemental food for unhoused dogs while offering training and support to improve the quality of dog ownership throughout the local community.
Redwood Parks Conservancy provides funding and support to our north coast public lands partner agencies for important conservation, restoration and education efforts that ensure the sustainability of our forests, mountains, and coastal ecosystems for their irreplaceable intrinsic value and for the benefit of the public for generations to come.
Redwood Raks Collective is a diverse, all-volunteer artist collective offering a wide variety of dance, movement, music, and cultural events for local community members of all ages including Latin, belly dance, capoeira, fitness, African, folk, samba, Japanese, and more. The Collective is committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone is welcomed, valued and celebrated.
Wild Souls Ranch provides equine-assisted growth and learning (EAGL) sessions to at-risk youth in our community as a dynamic therapeutic approach that harnesses connection between humans and horses to promote personal development, emotional well-being and learning. EAGL engages individuals in purposeful activities to reach therapeutic goals and enhance various aspects of their lives.
